Recipes I like
For Valentine’s Day I have chosen a wonderful cream from my list of Recipes I like: Crema Catalana. Actually, today’s dessert has already been chosen when I read the recipe on Manu’s Menu weeks before. I halved the quantity and used ground cinnamon instead of cinnamon bark and lemon juice instead of zest. And unfortunately, we don’t have a balloon whisk yet, so I whisked the mixture with our little wooden spoon. It was hard work but worth it.
Our first blender
Yesterday we have bought our first stand blender. And today we tested it with a simple banana milkshake recipe.
Once upon a time…
My love with Dobos cake began in a wedding party when I was a little girl. When the time came, the wedding cake was carried around and the slices were passed from hand to hand. When I received my plate and saw the splendid slice on it, I suddenly fell in love. The nicely lined up layers, the chocolate filling and the hard caramel topping…
I think Dobos cake is my favorite one. So to test my blowtorch (my boyfriend gifted me) of course I chose this recipe. This was a test of my cake tin as well. (See Stéphanie cake recipe.) Both did well, but the proper regulation of the gas flame need to be practiced.
This happened a little more than a year ago. While enjoying the last days of the summer holiday, I applied for a job. I spent my last semester of Masters and the only thing I had to do was to write my thesis. So working full time wouldn’t mean a problem. But back to the story: I was hard at work on caramelizing the sugar with the blowtorch when my phone rang. The company called me in for an interview. Since then I work there as a civil engineer and I enjoy it.

I have tried this recipe months ago to bake a cake to my boyfriend for his birthday. And as the biggest appreciation: his mother asked me to send the recipe to bake it for Easter.
For Valentine’s Day
and for the weekend I’ve made Cossack hat. Although I didn’t form it like a hat, the coconut wasn’t skipped.
This happened almost 2 month ago.
Since my last entry, my boyfriend got his first job (unexpectedly next to my workplace) and he has moved in my apartment. So we spent Valentine’s Day together. We visited the Tropicarium in Budapest where we were impressed by the sharks.
Since my last entry, we have visit several apartments too, because this one is very small for two. A week ago we have found the perfect apartment, so we have to move again soon. I can’t wait for it!
Since my last entry, I was re-thinking the design of my blog too. Here is the result, hope You like it!
But back to the recipe. I needed to simplify the design of the cake again: I didn’t form little hats and I put shredded coconut into the cream instead of covering the hats with it.
I desire a little sweet
As I am so lazy today, I didn’t do the shopping. However I must eat some sweet, so I have to look around what’s in the house. Of course there is no milk and I have run out of baking powder too… Let’s search for a recipe without milk and baking powder.
When I almost gave up, a Dobos cake recipe suddenly appeared. No milk, no baking powder. Perfect! I have baked this cake once, it was a memorable experience.
I tested my blowtorch (a gift from my boyfriend), my new cake tin and the icing on the cake was a telephone call about my new job. So it will be another story.
To be as fast as possible, I chose the recipe of Stéphanie cake (very similar to Dobos cake) and I’ve simplified the design of the cake: I used my small baking pan, I baked 3 layers and I didn’t cover the cake.

A brief entry from the new kitchen
Luckily I have found a new apartment since my latest post. Here the conditions are perfect for writing my thesis and it is not too far from my workplace. This time I introduce one of my most rapid lunch.
I have learned this new word (attempt) from my boyfriend while working on his project, and I think it fits to this recipe. Donuts in general are deep-fried in hot oil but this time I have baked them in the oven. Here You are the recipe.
